I bought this haybine and have fixed it up, but have one possible problem left with it. The spacing between the rolls is about 1/8 of an inch. The adjusting bolts that adjust the roll spacing appear to be frozen. Also, the upper roll pivots appear to be sticky - I can force the rolls further apart with a hydraulic jack, but they stick there - to get the rolls back together I have to hit it with a hammer (through a 2X4). I have mowed a test row, and the cut hay appears to be fluffed up compared to my sickle bar mower, which just lays the hay back down flat after cutting it.

Is this something that needs to be fixed, or am I just sacrificing some conditioning effectiveness ?

I know this haybine don't have the best reputation, but I bought it for $175 and have put about $200 more into fixing it up, mainly new tires and some chain. This is alot cheaper than spending $1500 or so, which is what most older New Holland haybines seem to go for around here.

Thanks in advance !

I'd mow a few acres with it and see if it didn't loosen right up.

Hopefully I'll be doing that in a week or two - all of this rain we've been getting in MI has delayed things, though.

Thanks !
