found old sickle bar mower?buried in dirt at grandfathers farm site.. can anyone id this by the nmodel #? it has john deere with a deer in the middle jumping over a sickle bar with the number z703-h on the cover. help!!! how old is it and what was it for sure????cleaned up the rust and want to make a casting of it.

Jim,

Is this a horse drawn mower? I have the manuals for the Dain-Deere, the John Deere #1, #2, #3, and the #4 horse mowers and that number isn't coming up in any of the manuals. The Dain is being showed as Z221, the #1 and the #2 shows Z414, and the #3 and the #4 is showing the tool box cover as a Z412H. In the #4 manual, is shows the Z412H sub. for AZ994H

Could you tell us a bit more about this machine? Do you have any other casting numbers handy? I'll be happy to look through the Deere manuals I have to see what I can find for you.
