I just purchased a very clean 273 Baler. I have the original manual, but it doesn't tell what the timing marks look like on the two round pieces on the knotter shaft. On both, I see a row of circle like indentions. Are these the timing marks that should align? I don't want to bale until I'm sure the machine is in time. Is there anything else besides the needle drive that needs to be "in time"? Thanks, Kenneth

the feeder drag link is directly attached to the plunger in this model. you do not need to time the feeder to the plunger as in chain driven models.

I would double check the knotter timing by doing the following. clean bale chamber. disconnect twine. have second person slowly rotate the flywheel by hand through a tying cycle. the needles should enter the bottom of the balecase just as the plunger passes over them. i think the correct measurement is the needles enter the balecase 5/8th inch to 3/4 past the tips of the plunger face extensions. i take the twine out so during repeted timing attempts, the twine does not "ball up" on the bill hooks.

To time your baler put the plunger crank arm in a verticle position and there should be 2 lines or chisel marks the arm sets between these marks. Go around to the twine box and pull the needle lift rod located on the right side of bale chamber from knotter stack to needle carrier and pull it rearward until it is in home position. It sort of lock in place when in the home position. The go back to left side of baler and look at knotter drive shaft cam and drive chain sprocket. There are 3 punch marks on each piece and they should line up. If not lossen idler on knotter drive chain and move chain on sprocket until marks line up. Tighten drive recheck marks and if still lined up knotter is in time with plunger and needles. If you have any other questions just post.
