i have a nh 848 and i am going to keep it forever.its baled thousands of bales and very dependable.bale density is controlled by many factors, moisture content, size of windrow, ground speed of baler and air spring pressure.i keep my baler air springs at 32 psi going above 40 psi will shorten baler life.

If you are looking for a tight bale, stay away from it. If it is real cheap maybe. 500-600 dollars. Look for a 848 instead. It is a chain baler with air springs for bale tension. It makes as tight a bale as a belt baler if you tweak it a little. Put 45-50 Lbs of pressure instead of the listed 25-40 Lbs and install a air gauge and air lines between the 2 bags instead of the 2 seperate fill points. The 853, and 855 have this setup. If you leave it as stock it will bale a good bale. It makes a 54"
x 47" bale.

Decent is a good choice of words. Very durable, bale anything, but, especially if you bale near capacity bales are not real tight.
