If they're are in pretty much the same condition and about the same price, I would go with the brand that has the best local dealer support. I run Vermeer and New Holland because of the high quality, responsive dealers near me. When you break down with crop on the ground this becomes really important. All round balers take lots of TLC. This even more so with used ones, so, it's a real help to have a dealer with a factory trained mechanic for advise and a good parts dept.

Amen to Clem; my experience also has been with Vermeer and NH. Personally think Vermeer makes better bale; NH easier to run, more versatile.

So am I, where are you located? ;)

Gehl made fixed chamber & belt balers, which is it?

My understanding is Vemeer balers after the C model had open throat (good), earlier were harder feeding. (Can't remember which way the 'C' went...) Small company so less around, but well made, inventer of the modern round belt baler...

New Holland made chain balers & belt balers. Both were pretty good. Chains wear, beat off some leaves in alfalfa, but actually feed better in tough stuff like corn stalks. Belt balers make tighter heavier bales that hold up to weather much better.

M&W I think is a fixed chamber, but do not see any at all 'here' so can't comment.

The above is based on what I hear on the internet & locally. Only baled 100 rounds with the neigbor's balers myself, so no expert here. How about the model numbers or age, difficult to compare by only manufacturer's name...
