I am seriously thinking of going to a round bailer as I am getting older and I just can't seem to find young fellows to stack hay anymore,
they would rather work at Mc.Donalds. My local Deere dealer has a fair looking 410 round bailer for about $3000-3500 are they any good? the belts look worn but most everything else looks ok I don't worry about fixing things as that comes second nature to me. I just have no experence with round bailers I only put up 500 or so bales per yr. do the 4x5 round bales need put under cover or can they be left out like the big round bales? thanks in advance Geo

I bought a 510 two years ago for $1800 in good shape in SE Michigan (at a dealer). These balers are pretty much the same except for bale size. I think that $3000 is too high (unless maybe the smaller balers get a premium). The 510 has been a good baler, but the one thing to watch out for is that your hay must be drier than you need when square baling, or it will wrap around the inlet compression rollers and make a terrible mess. You can leave the bales out, but the smaller size means you will lose more hay - that's why I got a 6 x 5.
