I have ordered an owner's manual for my NH 78 Baler and was wondering what HP the tractor needs. I bought an ad on EBay that gives some specifications, but for the PTO version it says "3-plow tractor". What HP gives you 3-plow? I have a JD730D (59hp) and a Farmall M. At approx. 3500 lbs I can't pull it with my Ferguson TO-30!

Thanks for any input.

Mike

I had a feeling we were talking in the 30-45 HP, but wasn't sure. Thanks to everyone for responding.

IMHO, 4 cyls will pull better under pto or belt load than 2 cyls. I'd use the M, even if it does not have LPTO because the 2 cyl will surge more w/each plunger stroke. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Either the 730 or the M will nicely handle your baler. It's nice to have the live PTO of the 730 but we baled lots years ago with an M.

A 3 plow tractor is around 38 pto or belt hp.
