Did hear a tale the other day about a wooden threshing machine, made by "Woods".
Gave the fella a call and went to look.
Well, it is a Woods Brothers threshing machine, the words "Perfection No.(blank)" are on the right side as is what I can only faintly make out to be "Cincinatti".
It is however a galvanised metal machine on Iron spokes, wooden tounge & wooden slats on the feeder chains & is about a 26" machine It has bundle cutters, weigher on top and a wind stacker, all the usual.
Here it gets interesting.
The whole separating shoe is wooden, including the fan housing. The walkers too are made of wood.
The most curious thing is the returns conveyor.
It is a round galvanised tube which picks up the returns on one side, pulls them up to the cylinder where the tube makes a 90 degree, lays across the top of the cyl; feeding the returns in as it crosses the whole width of the machine, makes another 90 and goes back down to the shoe, 90 again, across to pick up the returns then back up.
An endless loop around the whole machine.
Up here in Northern Alberta we have many old threshers in the bush, but this one is a little different, at least in this district.
It was supplied new to the owners father in the thirties as best can be rembered and was run with a J.D. "D".
Any ideas or information would be most welcomed.
Kindest regards, Herb.

I'm a long way from Northern Alberta, but that sounds like an interesting machine to me. I'd love to see it. When I was a kid I was the grease monkey on a 28" Belle City machine that a local farmer had. All the shakers were wood frame and the shaker arms were wood, but the teeth on the shakers were galvanized. I crawled through that machine twice a day greasing everything so I got very familiar with the heat, dust and dirt on the inside of a threshing machine at noon on a hot day. Good luck learning more about yours. It sounds very interesting.
