Dennis I have one a 640 ford sinse 1984 use it every day to spread horse manure and still works fine hope this helps later CDH

Yes, that helps, I felt they probably last a while, and was thinking of picking up a used one.

Anything specific to look for, I can pick one up for about a third of new.

I will only be using it to mow 5 acres of recreational land 4-6 times a year.

Don't pass one by if it seems to have a lot of slop between the inner and outer part. I got a new one in the fall and it had lots of slop from new. I asked around and everyone said theirs was like that too.
Also you probably should use a new roll pin. Grease it well to prevent water from getting in and freezing in the winter.
