I am getting a JD plow, i dont know what model it is, but it has rope trip drop, 2 bottom, rubber tires. I am going to try to put it in the back of the truck, but if it wont work that way i will need to two it behind the truck. Does anybody know the maximum speed for this plow. The tires are truck tires rated for 60 mph, but i will not even go near that fast, it was just greased so the lubrication is no problem.
thank you
doug

Borrow a trailer, DO NOT tow, Will wip at 5mph and no bearings, would tear the wheels up

That plow should fit in a full size pickup with no trouble. You might neen to take off the drawbar to close the tailgate. I just had a 4B plow in my truck and I have hauled NO44 plows also. When you get it in use the levers to drop the plow down on the bottoms so it won't roll.

Ohmygosh, didn't bother reading this thread because I thought it would be about speed while in the ground.....

Don't tow it any distance at all. You won't get over 10 mph, if that!!! It will slap back & forth something aweful.

No one has mentioned - those trip plows are just that - what if it flops down into 'plow' postion on a bump in the road? Could make quite a mess.

Disassemble & put the pieces in your truck if nothing else, that's how they did it here before trailers became widespread.

Try U-Haul and see what they would rent you a trailer for. Last time I checke you could get the 4x8 utility type for around $12. Not even worth the risk of doing it any other way and it will be easier to load and unload than the truck

Doug, You would be better off finding someone with a double wide snowmobile trailer that you could use(preferably one that tilts so that you can push-pull the plow on) if the plow won't fit in the back of your truck. Safety is everyone's business. Just my 2 cents worth.

don't consider towing a plow any distance behind a truck, you can't see it and an old plow wouldn't be safe a road speed over 10 mph.

I'd try hard to fit it in the truck. The pull type plow I have "whips" back and forth real bad if you go more than about 10.

Doug,
Old farm implements weren't meant to be towed at any kind of speed. The plow I use (six bottom 16" has a label on it that says not to tow in excess of 10mph.
