Have 6' rotary rough mower. Yes, I know that the Howse is a low cost mower. This one has served me as well as expected, so the low price has pleased me. The Howse dealer wanted $27.00 per blade (H 384) (phone quote) for replacements and he is some distance away. A nearer dealer has several brands, but not the Howse. This dealer had Fred Cain blades (BH-3040) for $14.85 each that will fit and place the cutting edge exactly the same as the originals even though the offset curves are different. Never before heard of Fred Cain. What can you tell me about that company?

Go ahead and save the money BD.

Our local co-op sells Cain and they last better than the Howse blades anyway. I use them on a 6' and a 5' Howse.

Fred Cain equipment is made in Danville, Ky. It's about 45 minutes south of Lexington, Ky, right in the center of the state. They make all kinds of "low cost" equipment from pig poles to bush hogs to some tillage equipment.

Lots of local dealers(in east ky) carry the stuff and most seem to agree that for the money, it's decent stuff. I'd say that it's about the same type quality as your Howse(a couple of local dealers sell them too), just not as "finished" if you know what I mean.

They've been in business since 1969, so they must be doing something right, even if it is just selling to the local boys. Hope this helps a little.

Casey

I think you can buy replacement parts and blades directly from Howse. Do a search for the HOWSE Co.
web site and e-mail them. I emailed them for a local Howse dealer and didn't even know that a guy about 10 miles down the road was a dealer. They are really good to deal with. Good luck.
