Towing a Ford Wheel Disk

Can I tow a Ford 8ft Wheel Disk behind a Toyota 4 Runner safely? Is there a special way the wheel disk should be hooked to the trailer hitch on the 4 Runner? Are there any laws in OH, KY, and TN that would prevent me from transporting the disk in said manner on Federal and Interstate Highways? How can I get the disk up in the air and keep the wheels on the pavement to safely make a 350 mile trip? A lot of questions, but I need to know.

I will be installing flashing lights on the disk, checking wheel bearings and packing with grease, checking tires and replacing if necessary and using safty chains at the trailer hitch.

Thanks in advance for all commits and advice?

I would trailer it home. If you do tow a disc any distance, most would recommend a come-along between one corner of the disc and the front of the hitch, to take up the slack in the hitch mountings- you can avoid whipping that way. But that distance and the roads you would be on- I'd go with the trailer, good brakes and lites, and flags if you are over-width.

Farm implements are generally(always?) excluded from Interstate Highways and Limited Access Highways. Remember this disk has no suspension and would beat itself into pieces by the time you would make it home. When you say 8 foot disk is that the actual maximum width or the cutting width? Most of the equipment trailers with an 8 foot wide deck will be too heavy to be safe for the long haul with your 4-runner. I am assuming you would be traveling on I-65 and attempting to navigate Nashville with it. The standard price for an older used transport disk <= 12 feet seems to be around $350 give or take a little. It would almost need to be free to justify the trouble of breaking it down and hauling it. As others have said it is not worth the risk of pulling it.

Back that puppy on a trailer and go on home. Do NOT try to tow it that far. It should fit a regular flat bed fine.

I've put about as many miles on my pick-ups pulling something behind (usually trailers, but also disks, balers, planters etc) as driving them empty. However, I would have to agree with Jhill; can't see myself doing that. If I just had to have that disk, believe I'd carry wrenches and disassemble it enough to get it in the truck or on a trailer.

I wouldn't even think of doing this. Wheel discs don't tow very well over tractor speed. They like to start weaving and I think one could push a 4runner right off the road. Find a disc loaclly and then resell after you are done.
