My older-model pull-type rotary mower needs to have it's gear case lubed. It has a screw-out plug near the top of it, so I am assuming it takes oil, rather than grease. Can anyone suggest what type and viscosity of oil to use in these older gear cases? Thanks.

I own a ford fiesta mk3 1996 model with a 5 speed gearbox.I read that it needs special gear oil. Can you find any answers about which type of oil I need to use please?

Hi JKC, The gear case oil is 90 wt as stated but be careful about the recommended level and be sure the vent is clear or you may blow out the shaft seal next time it heats up. The vent will probably be a drilled passage in the fill plug. There will probably be a smaller plug lower down on the gear case for the fill level. Joe

90wt gear lube. Any auto parts store or discount house like Wally-World carries it.
