I have an old JD 2 bottom plow, 1940's vintage. It has a fork on the hitch with a 5/8" hole. The spring mechanism is on the plow, but I am missing whatever piece it is that hooks up to the tractor. The fork won't go over the drawbar of the JD B I am using. Had to make a thinner plate and bolt to the drawbar to use the plow. What is this piece called that I need? Does anyone have one they would want to get rid of?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the help guys. I knew there was a mechanism for when you hit a rock. The spring and pocket for this device is on the plow. It sounds like I need a "J hook." I just didn't know what it looks like or what you call it. I will try Deere first.

If the plow is a mechanical lift it should take either the twisted clevis mentioned below or a
flat clevis that either bolts to the drawbar or some JD clevises use a drawpin. If the plow is a hydraulic lift the it may have the spring loaded knee knocker hitch that disengauged the clutch when you hit somthing. That one uses a comon straight clevis held to the plow with a bolt through a small fork.

I believe there should be a J shaped bar on the plow. The short end goes thru the clevise on the plow and the long end goes back thru a sliding bracket further up the hitch. You put the bottom of the j thru a clevis on the tractor then the long end goes under the sliding bracket and a pin holds the sliding bracket. When you hit a rock the spring under the hitch lets the j bar slide foreward and release from the tractor clevis. It's hard to describe. Hope this helps

If it is what I'm thinking, the fork is horizontal right? If that is the case, then there's a bolt with a sleeve going horizontally through the fork, adn then you use a conventional clevice - usually made of round stock to connect to the drawbar.

Or, is the fixture on the plow a trip release mechanism - then you need a twisted clevice.

If you could post a picture, or give a model number - and Bob Collins shows up, he could be more help. He knows about JD plows!

Ray, Thanks for the vote of confidence. These answers are all good, also I answered this question for mark a few days ago (see below about 3 pages.) I think he needs the L or J shaped part # 19015A Hitch release hook. This seems to go along with the description as I visualize it. Can you imagine how boring this would all be if John Deere had only made one plow and one style hitch etc.?
