I have been given a JD #46 loader.I was wondering if someone could tell me what of tractors these were designed to fit and how much lifting capacity (i.e. Can it handle big bales?) Thanks

My buddy bought one off a J D 60 and put it on a 4020 about 10 years ago. I saw it about two weeks ago and it's still on the 4020 with the help of several welding rods.

Have had 2 of these things (46A)for about 35 years. Mounted on 4020s. They are light-duty loaders, but will handle anything that the 4020 front-end will handle. Load big round bales and logs (carefully).

I failed to mention the "catch". The cylinders and hoses have been stolen.Anyone have access to the stroke and bore of the cylinders so I can start scrounging or am I better off finding one complete? KROB

KROB, lift cylinders were either 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" X 26". I started out with mechanical 'trip', later added my own hydraulic 'dump'. Can't remember what it was gonna cost to buy factory conversion, but I knew I could do it cheaper. Used generic cylinders (Cross or ???) and built my own brackets on outside of frame rather than between the frames because of "clutter". These cylinders are 3" X 16". Had to 'play' with mounting positions a little to get the travel I wanted since I'm not an engineer, but rather a simple dirt farmer.

I used one on a 4010 but brackets probaly made for other tractors. Seems like there was two sets of holes it could be mounted in, one for 4010's and one for the shorter 3010. It will will lift large round bales. Don't know the lift capacity in lbs but they are good loaders.
