I am looking to buy a used plow this spring but want to buy one that parts are still available for. I have an old Ferguson 12-AO-28 and can't get a point for less than $150. Are there other types of plows that I should stay away from because parts are not available or too expensive? Thanks.

Check out Shoup Manufacturing Company. www.shoupparts.com. They may be able to help. Phone # is 1 800 627 6137. Good luck.

Michael,
I have two older John Deere plows with throw away shares. You can still get parts for John Deere plows that are really old. The throw away shares are cheap, usually around $10. A lot of the machinery bone yards still have parts for just about any John Deere plow.

Mike, Would it be possible to get another plow share the right length and clamp it to your plow, then if all the holes didn't line up drill new holes in the frogs? The frogs should be soft and drillable where as the shares wouild be tempered. Just a thought but it may at least be worth considering. Good luck.

Any of the Ford 101 series plow work great and you can get any wear parts you need for them at any Co-op for less than most other brands.

Here's the plows I have found to be easiest to service: Any John Deere with throwaway-style shares, any Oliver/White with throwaway shares, and any International Harvester with Super-Chief style throwaways. OEM and aftermarket sources plentiful for these brands.
