Does anyone know what size tires came on the older John Deere 8ft. Wheel Disk? Also, is there an automobile rim with the same bolt pattern as the John Deere 8ft. Wheel Disk? Thanks!!

DJ

There are a lot of farm machines that had four-bolt rims, many with common center hole diameters. Some are still being used. NH rakes, many coil tine harrows like Melroe, etc. Light machines like grain vacs, field sprayers, etc. used the same common wheels. Check salvage yards- great resource for them. Or farmer's fencelines.

I think you would be lucky to find a auto wheel that would fit a J D hub. It's four bolt isn't it? Most of those wheels were 15" so a 205x15 tire should fit. There should be plenty wheels around off of old implements.

The guy that has it tells me it is a John Deere, you can see the green paint, but no tag. The wheels have a four bolt pattern. I can clean one up, but will need to replace the other. I just thought there just might be an auto wheel with the same bolt pattern.

Thanks, DJ

some are an implement wheel and some are the same as car wheels. If the hub has a JD emblem or part number it's probably an implement wheel, usually 6 hole. your JD dealer should be able to answer for you if you know the model # of the disc or can give them apart number.

John Deere used 4, 5, and 6 hole rims, depending on the application. Heavier machines got heavier rims and more holes. Car rims are unlikely to match, the center hole is usually smaller. Cutting them out is not a good option- the center hole matches the hub for a proper tight fit to help carry the load. Stick with the right rim, even if you have to buy at the dealer. After all, if you don't support the local dealer, who will be there ten years from now? That's why so many have disappeared over the years. If you can find what you need before it goes to scrap, fine, but don't forget the dealer. I'm not one, but I value the info I get from them even when not buying- they wouldn't be here without our business.

Chuck,
The guy that has this disk tells me it is a JD, I can see the green paint, but couldn't find a name tag. It may be on there, I may have just looked over it. The wheels are flimsy looking with a four bolt pattern. I thought a samll auto wheel or maybe a small utility trailer would have the same bolt pattern.
Thanks!! DJ

General motors used 4 bolt wheels on several of their smaller cars a few years ago, notably the Vega, Monza, SkyHawk. Unfortunately these were all 13" tires. I do have a utility trailer which uses the same bolt pattern and wheels. However, it is necessary to open up the center hole to fit over the trailer hub. If you look carefully at a salvage yard where the yardmaster knows what's what, you may well be able to find what you're looking for.

Ray,
Like you say there are a lot of different cars with a four bolt wheel pattern. I just thought someone may have did this before and could tell me the make and model they used. Thanks!!! DJ

Deere uses the same kind of wheel on field cultivator wings. Should be able to get one through dealer if it comes to that. My Zimmerman portable elevator and my JD KBA disk both have the same 4-bolt pattern and center hole (as a matter of fact, the old IH hay crusher out in the junk pile has the same wheels, too). I believe Miller Tire also has new wheels that pattern.
