Wooden Pulley,... What've I Got?

Hey folks: I've emigrated from the IH Board with a specific implement(?) question. I have come by what looks like a belt pulley,... wooden (oak? maple?), 10" in diameter, 3-and-1/2 inches across the face, with a 3-and-1/2 inch hole in the middle (must be an official name for that),... 12 or 13 pieces stacked,... held together with 2 internal/hidden bolts so it can be opened up, fit over an axle(?), and tightened back down/around. The whole thing is in really rather remarkably good shape, it seems to me, but there are no apparent identifying markings; there are what looks like the last leftovers of some painted rings on either side,... one at the outer edge, one around that center hole, another one halfway between along side a shallow groove that seems to have no utilitarian purpose.

Not much to go on, I know; but with those clues, does anybody want to take a guess at what I've got,... what it might have come off of,... how old it might be?

Thanks for your guesses.
RedTed/MO.

Years ago, (say, 1940 and earlier) a lot of shops used an overhead pulley/belt system to drive multiple tools. Sounds to me like a pulley from a system like that.

Mike, and F14: I've seen pictures of this kind of set up in some wonderful old books and USDA pamphlets about "modern farm techniques",... from 70 years ago! The piece in hand doesn't seem to have seen much weather, nor does it seem ever to have soaked up much in the way of grease or oil, which certainly supports the likelihood of it having been used this way. Thanks for your help. I'll check this post for another day or two and see if anybody else has any ideas. RedTed/MO.
