Looking at a 7 ft JD sickle mower with rear tail wheel to pick up - price range is between 150 - 200 - has newer blades, rock guards, and extra pitman arm. Also has been converted to three point but has the ability to put back to drawbar.

Wondering what I should look for on this piece and how the price range sounds - have not played with sickle mowers before. Owner does not know year or model. Is pto driven, has been used behind a 9N. Thanks, Jim

I saw some of these bring anywhere from 25-150 most times depending on the sale and weather. Check the oil level and be sure it will hold oil not gun grease in the chain drive part. Most everything else will be evident when you look at it. Make sure you have a way to lift the mower the right way. I have seen some two point fittings on them and you still need the foot clutch, hand lift or hydraulic cylinder to lift the bar from the ground.
