I recently saw an old international bailer that has been all but destroyed. I also believ it had a 4 cylinder continetal engine as it's power supply. Unfortunitly for me someone had pulled the head off and I fear the engine is seized up. I didn't see the head around the area, what am I probably looking at? Is the engine of any real value or are they fairly common? Also I noticed 4 very large pistons from an obviously larger machine that were sitting a upon an old radiator. Any one think I should make an offer on the whole mess?

Are you sure it's a continental?
My grandpa had a IH 50-T baler with a IH Cub engine. That was a good engine, but the baler was not that good.

If you wanted an engine like that try to find one that is complete. If the head has been off it would be hard to get it going again. Thse engines were fairly common around the midwest but aren't sought after too much. They have the same power about as the AorB farmall, but they won't work as a tractor replacement engine.

Steven, We also had a 50 - T baler. It definitely had a Continental motor on it. We baled thousands of bales with that baler with not much of a problem other than an occasional knotter issue.

I have the book for the baler and the engine. I looks like a Cub engine, and the specifications are the same as the Cub tractor engine.(Is the Cub engine a continental?)
My grandpa got the baler new in 1952 The knotter was the issue. I was also told that the flywheel drive key,was fun to replace. That was the safty.

Ours was older than 52, but I'm not sure how much older. I believe they made a switch from the continental to the cub engine.

I asked on the IH forum. They told me the same thing. I have aJohn Deere LUC power unit. It would be fun to have a Cub like my grandpa's baler had. Last summer i got to see one at a show. It was nice to see it.
