Sposed to be a ground drive 3pt. mounted job, the wheels drag on the ground and spin without gearing or the such. What quality and worth are they, is $300 a decent price in an as new condition? I'm going to look at it Sat. and sure would like some info to go on. Thank you, Loren.

About a year ago Cross & Sons in Jackson, Ohio sold a new unassembled Sitrex 4-wheel rake for $550 to a friend of mine. Hauled it in the back of my pick-up. Didn't take long to put it together. Another dealer wanted $500 for a rusty, well used Sitrex with a few broken teeth. I think they still have it.

I have one of these style rakes and have used one of the double V style 8 wheel Vermeer trailer types. They are a good inexpensive rake. (well the Vermeer isn't that cheap but excellent for what it does) They are in my application a little too good. They clean the ground very well and I am raising horse quality Alfalfa in a very picky market. These rakes pick up undergrowth and last falls folige that froze back and roll it into the windrow leaving the hay looking a bit "dirty". If a bit of hay gets missed with the baler it will be raked at the next cutting. Since they are driven by the rake teeth dragging the ground they stir up more dirt and dust into the hay as well. We have had some problem with them "combing" short cuttings or straw cut with a sickle bar mower but hay run through a conditioner has no problems. Grass hay seems to work best with them and you can rake as fast as you can stand the ride. LOL I now use a NH 55 for most of my raking since it stays just a little above the dirt and it makes the hay look better. Burrhead sent me some information on how to use them as a tedder and inverter and I still have mine because it looked like they might be awful handy on a rained on swath.

I think you mean Sitrex? Raking wheels are oriented vertically?

Search Google.com for Sitrex and you'll find lots of info. I've never had one. I recall that some other folks thought they were pretty good, at least on clean ground.

I'm sure some others that have hands-on experience with them will jump in here.

How big a swath will this one rake? $300 for an as-new Sitrex rake seems like a pretty sweet deal. The bigger models are up in the thousands.. used..

I've got one. It's several years old now and have'nt had any problem at all except when I was learning to use it.

They will adjust to tedder and to rained on windrow with minimum leaf loss. Plus that you can rake as fast as the ground will let you stay in the seat. I quit using my NH altogether after I got a Sittrex.

I'd say if you can get a good one for $300 the money will be well spent.

Ok, then I'll try for it. Curious, what do they sell for new? I checked the Sitrex site and it looks to be, by rough description only, a RP4. 4 wheel job. Thanks for the help guys.

He said it's 8 or 9 feet across. By description it does sound like the wheels are vertical. I'll try the Google thing but may get lost this first time out.

Something may be a little twitchy with the message board.. seems like there have been a lot of multiple posts lately.
