McCormick Returns!

One of the oldest names in U.S. and world agriculture has announced plans to introduce a whole new tractor line to the U.S. market, effective immediately.

McCormick Tractors International, Ltd. (United Kingdom), a world-class manufacturer and marketer of tractors, and Vermeer Manufacturing Company, one of Americas leading hay equipment companies, have formed an alliance to market the McCormick tractor line throughout the U.S.

The new venture McCormick International USA, Inc. will be based near, and supported through, Vermeers corporate dealerships.

Initially, McCormick plans to introduce a range of tractors from 64 to 176 hp identified as the C, CX, MC and MTX Series which are produced by McCormick at their Doncaster, England (tractor) and St. Dizier, France (transmission) facilities.

With the plant acquisitions came the McCormick brand, which dates back to Cyrus McCormick and the invention of the McCormick Reaper in 1831. The McCormick name first appeared on tractors in 1906 and, for many years, was branded on International Harvester models.

"This new alliance marks the beginning of a unique marketing venture and an exciting opportunity for both organizations," said Joe Michaels, managing director for the new venture. "

Vermeer has also contributed significantly to these chronicles with the invention and development of big round balers and the one-person hay harvesting system.

Several announcements will be made during the coming months regarding additional product introductions, personnel, distribution and operations.

McCormick Tractors International, Ltd., headquartered in Doncaster, England, markets tractors worldwide. The Vermeer alliance marks their first entry into the U.S. Vermeer, comprised of four operating divisions, is also a global manufacturer and marketer.

And many people don't realize that the good ol' green and yellow ones in the 2150-3150 and 2155-3255 ranges were German-built. That was in the '80s. Oliver sold David-Brown English-built tractors in the '60s, Case sold them in the '70s and '80s. A-C and Oliver/Minnie-Mo sold Italian Fiat tractors in the '70s. Hesston sold Fiats from the late '70s through the early '90s. There's only room for so many tractor plants in the world. . . . you'll see more international efforts at streamlining production by the big companies, they're not quite done yet.
