I have a JD 1217 with Non-clog guards and am looking at a 1219 with regular guards. Do the non-clog guards really make a difference? It will cut about $400.00 to convert it to a non-clug. Thats for your help. Bill

I have a 1209 with those non clog gaurds and I think they're worth having. I wou;d hold out for one that already had them, however. Like buying a tractor, if the extra cost items are already installed, it seems that they don't really add much to the price (buyers act like they are FREE . This is why sellers sell tractors without the extra cost parts like 3points) unless you have to go to the dealer and actually BUY them. Another nice feature is the high arch clips which permit you to use the easier to use nut and bolt instead of rivets when you have to replace a sickle section.

Anyway, I have used both and I like the non clog gaurds a lot better. Could you use the non clog gaurds on your 1217 for the first 7 feet and just buy a few new guards?
