I am looking for a small baler with thrower. I currently have a NH 278 that is just too big for my tractor(Oliver 77). There is a NH 269 with thrower at auction tomorow. My question is are they any good? I have used a 270 and 271 and thought that they were excellent machines, good capacity for their size, easy to pull, and excellent bales. I have also used a 273 and 310 which I didn't think were nearly as good. They were larger balers but didn't seem like they would take hay as well as the 270 and didn't make nearly as nice bales. Any ideas how a 269 might work? I was also told the pickup was belt driven instead of chain? How does this work? Any ideas on price? thanks a lot guys, there is no place like this to get good honest answers.

Josh, the 269 baler was produced from 1964 to 1968 along with the 268 and 272 balers. They are the same except the 268 was a short tongue, the 269 was long tongue and the 272 was an engine driven model. They were good balers, but lack capacity. If you did not like the capacity of the 273, then you will not like the 269 either. In eastern Pa, they are almost worthless. Steve

I have a 268 and a 276, no throwers. My 268 has been a very good baler. My 268 has belt drive pickup and it works good. Sometimes when baling on a ridge and the teeth dig into the dirt the belt slips and the pickup stops turning. I'm sure the 269 is very similar to the 268. My 268 also makes 60-70 lb nice square bales. Good Luck

We got a 269 and I love it!!! The pickup works great, a word about it, try to get one with a super sweep pickup. The have 6 bars for the teeth instead of 4, and the teeth a spaced closer together too. The super sweep really picks up the material and alot less goes to waste.

Let me know any other questions you have!!! Be happy to answer them!!!

I also had a 268 and believe that basically the only difference with the 269 was the three piece pto, which made tighter turns possible and a better tongue attached directly to the axle along with a better latch system to move the baler into road position and back. Overall ,a nice improvement over the 268.
