I am interested in buying a New Idea rake, model 401. Does anybody out there have experience with this model? It looks to be a little lighter and not as well made as a JD or a New Hollland but will it do the job reliably? I make about 60 acres of hay per season. Thanks, guys, for any comments you might have.

Hi, I have a 402 which is belt driven , easy to fix and parts are still plentyfull. The belt costs $109.00 , but are a lot cheaper than buying xmission parts. Bill

Best way to tell is to Use it, or at least watch it work..... If it runs steady, and does not whip around...then it may be worth looking at ... Any tendency to "Bunch" or make "Slugs" is for the Birds..!!!! I know that a good hay rake can be ruined in about NO time, if the operator doesent watch it....You never know about a piece, until you see it work...
