I have a old AC four row corn planter that I converted to a two row. I would like to use the other buckets for fertilizer. I need to know where does the planters with the fertilizer buckets drop the fertilizer in relationship with the seed. Does it drop the fertilizer in the same hole as the seed or does it just get close to the hole? Thanks for any help Mark

Mark, let us know what your intentions are. Are you growing to harvest or for food plot?

Pop-up and liquid fert in the row works because of the small amount being used- just a little bit to help get the plant started (Pop out of the ground). But fertilizer enough for the growing season burns the seed if placed in the row, thus the location alongside and lower; and yes, put down before the seed opener so the planted seed is not moved out of its intended location.

I'm not sure that will work real well. There are lots of 'new' ideas on pop-up fertilizer, & liquid in-row placement & all.

But for general dry fertilizer starter, you want it 2" to the side, & 2" deeper than the seed as others said. And you want to place it first, before the seed, not after. You will upset the seed placement if you run the starter behind the seed placement...

I don't see how you will get this placement, as well as proper rate, as well as being able to use the boxes more than one year (RUST!) with the extra seed boxes. I would look for a real fert applicator/ openers - it would be easier to modify a different brand to your planter than to modify the seed boxes to work. I would think.

The other poster is exactly right regarding placement. If you used the extra seed boxes for fertilizer, how would you calibrate the fertilizer rate? I would look for a factory fertilizer attachment, along with the appropriate drive sprockets. The seed boxes are designed for only one purpose- to singulate seeds at the chosen planting rate.

For starter fertilizer place approximately two inches below the seed depth and two inches to the side of the row. If you put fertilizer in the row it will burn the seed.
