Last fall I bought a NH 271 baler and have doing some work on it this winter getting it ready for next summer. I want to get a small supply of flywheel shear bolts before my first attempt at this. I suspect the bolts are of a certain hardness and would rather go to a local hardware store of bolt specialty store instead of paying some outrageous price at the dealer. Does anyone know the specs of this bolt??? Any help would be appreciated. Also, what else do I need extras of before I start baling? Thanks

I do not recommend this.

Dad drilled out the holes one size bigger, and used regular bolts. But they are soft when they shear & stick in the hole. So we use Grade 2 bolts now of that size.

This could be very hard on the gears, etc in the baler. Has worked for ~4000 bales a year for 20 years on the NH 272.

I bought my shear bolts from my local FNH dealer. Their not that expensive. If you are going to be a long ways from a parts source when your baling, you may want to get some knotter shear bolts too. Just my 2 cents worth.
