I have baled for 40 years and have worked on many square balers in my life. There is no better baler than a New Holland! Now depending on how much you are going to bale and what type of material you will be baling you can pick the best baler for the job. Larger ones with wider pickup for big job or a smaller slower baler for small jobs and depends on what HP tractor you will be using as well. No Baler is any better than your knowledge of the baler and how it works and the maintance you perform on it !!!!! !!

I have a Case 230, NH Super 78, and a JD 336. They all do what they are supposed to and do them all the same.

You won't go wrong with either a New Holland or a John Deere. They're both very good machines.

We use a John Deere 336 and it works well. Everyone talks about NH being the best, but we have never had serious trouble at all with our 336. All balers have tricky moving part - knotters especially - so be sure the baler you buy is in good shape. Another advantage is that the 336 is a newer model so its less complicated and parts are always readly available.

i would vote for a JD 466 or N holland 420, they are about 15 to 20 years old. 420 has a simple but effective feeder. JD will make a better "square bale" in hay but auger feed is not as good in stover, stalks, and straw. New holland 425 is similar but a more maintence on the feeder with rollers etc.

New Holland without question.

I agree with the first gentleman, the N.H. 282 or 283 would be one of the best. The 273 N.H. and the 14T John Deere are 14"x18" balers. Steve

The New Holland model 282 makes 16+18 bales and it is the best.

There are many parts that wear out on a baler. But if you get one with a worn knotter you will soon be headed for the nearest home for the mentally deranged because you will lose your mind fooling with it.

The condition of the baler you buy is more important than whether it is a Deere or NH. They both have made very few poor balers.

I have a J.D. 224 that does an excellent job for me year after year. There are a lot of New Hollands around also, and they are very good. However none will be any better than the care and maintenance you give it!

I have had excellent luck with my 273 NH. My brother-in-law says the same of his 14T JD. Both use the same knotters. Hope this helps.

For the money NH. or J.D. are your best bet.
For us 14T J.D. have worked fine.
We made over 12,000 one year and the 14T never gave us any trouble.
We liked it so well that I went out and bought another for $60.00 at auction.

dont overlook the hesston balers there centerline pickup is the best on the market we have put them up beside jd 348 and NH 585 and they have square bales without mishapen bales and will bale faster than anything else on the market we have switched to them
