I have a 2 bottom 16" oliver 4240 plow that I use with an oliver 77. I have been told that these were one of the best plows ever made. Mine does a nice job, a lot nicer than the 3 pt plow I have, but it pulls sort of sideways behind the tracor, and the small wheel in the back doesn't stay in the furrow. I think that maybe not pulling the plow from the center of draft is causign my problem but I don't want to shift my tractor wheels in to change the hitch point of the plow. Would buying an owners manual help? And if it would help would I be able to find one? Thanks in advance.

Josh, You can get a manual from any Agco dealer, they get old manuals from a company that copies old manuals or may have an orginal in their stock. I got the manual for my 4320 plow this way. By the way- center of the tractor rear wheels should be 55 inches shift the drawbar according. The manual has pictures and step by step instructions. Hope this helps.

we collect and use oliver plows are they are still the best plow ever made you may be able to cure your problem by moving your drawbar over one or more holes to get the plow in better line if not moving the wheels is the only option

Oliver was known for building an excellent plow for many years. Both of mine do a better job than my 6-18 IH plow. Much more uniform furrows, and fewer problems and less breakage on the reset mechanisms. Buying an owners manual is always good advice- but only if you follow it. Your plow pulls crooked because it is not lined up properly behind the tractor, thus you may have no choice about moving the rear wheels on the axle. Center of draft is not center of the plow- if memory serves me correct, it is 1/4 bottom width to the right of center of the plow. Pull type plow will have a hitch that adjusts to line up the pull point with the center of draft. Then you can tell if the tractor's furrow wheel needs to be moved. When properly hitched, the front plow bottom will take a full cut when the tractor wheel is in the furrow.
