Worn tiller tines(blades)

HI" How does one determine if the blades on a tiller are worn to the point of replacing? Is it when there is no more bevel in the blade? a width that is to narrow ? or just when sharpened , they work poorly? probablly a dumb question but I really do"nt know.

I've never had to "sharpen" my tines, in fact the edges tend to be sharp enough to cut you while replacing them. I suspect you're talking about a walk-behind tiller?

I go by width. The tines on my 3-point Howard for my tractor are nearly "L" shaped. When the working part of the "L" is worn to the point where it's actually shortening the length rather than just wearing away at the cutting edge, I replace 'em.
