I have a IH no.8 plow with demountable cast wheels. I would guess it to be 1939 or early 40s. Does any one know what the years of production are and how common or rare it might be?

I guess I should have gone into greater detail. The wheel on the clutch side has a 21 inch tire that mounts to a cast iron spoke wheel. The right wheel has a 16 inch tire on a cast spoke wheel and the tail wheel also has a cast iron center. The last F-20s had demountable cast wheels which leads me to believe that this plow is of that era. I have several other plows including a no.8 4 bottom with a clutch lift and a no.10 5 bottom with a clutch lift. I was thinking of trading this 2 bottom plow for some items I would rather have and was trying to get some idea of its value. I don't think there are that many plows with this type of wheel. If it is rare I should keep it.

Or you could try to collect the entire series with all the different configurations. :-)

Chuck, you might try Kevin Babcock for parts. He used to hang out on the Tractor Tales and his handle is Titan. I bought some levers from him for mine. Good guy to deal with.

i think that they are sort of common. the #8 little genius plow was made from 1928 to 1960. during that time i h made 67,000 copies.made in 12,14, and 16 inches.a cluth lift was standard, but hydraulics were available in 1940. i have one also. hope this helps.

Chuck,

I can't help you out from when to when International made the #8 plow but I was just getting a #8 plow manual ready to put on e-bay and the date on it is 5-27-52-9b. The manual does show it was made with rubber or iron wheels.

Hope this helps,

Chuck, How do you tell if the plow is a #8? I have an old IH plow on steel (2 bottom) but I don't have any info on it yet. If you get any info, parts sources, manuals please let me know. Thanks, JSB

John,

I have attached a picture of the #8 on iron. I hope this will help you ID what you have.

You have any casting numbers handy? I have a #8 manual dated 5-27-52-9B I was getting ready to put on e-bay that shows it with 2 or 3 bottoms and with rubber or steel wheels. I will be happy to look up the numbers for you to see if what you have is a #8.

Hope this helps,

Thanks a Thousand (words, the going price for a picture). That helps alot. It really looks similar to what I have, just need to check during daylight to make sure. I just got the plow, it's still sitting on the trailer. It's in pretty rough shape. The front plow is missing entirely but I do have all of the back. The tail wheel is very thin on the edges, don't know if I can have some steel welded on the rim. The coulters are missing completely and the hub on the smaller wheel is worn out. On top of all that it's pretty rusted. I'd like to be able to get it into working condition since I have an M. May have to settle for restoring it to yard ornament condition. (Nice paint job)
I found these ser. #s; beam for front plow,PO17184. beam for back plow, PO12572. Tail wheel hub, PO1251. Clutch (?) housing for large wheel, PO1405. THANKS again for the info

John,

Looks like you do have a #8. Here is what I have found out for you from those numbers:

PO17184 - BEAM - first.
PO12572 - BEAM - second.
PO1251 - Band - sand, upper, w/set screw, for steel wheel.
PO1405 - PLATE - clutch.

Hope this helps,

Old Iron
