I WAS WONDERING. I PURCHASED AN ALAMO BATWING BUSHOG RECENTLY AND THE SPINDELS ON THE BUSHOG APPEAR TO BE MADE FOR 1000 RPM. THE PTO SHAFT EVEN APPEARS TO BE 1000 RPM, BUT AT THE END THAT YOU HOOKUP TO THE TRACTOR IS 540. I WAS TOLD WHEN I PURCHASED THE BUSHOG IT HAD BELONGED TO A ROAD CONTRACTOR TO MOW RIGHT-OF-WAYS.IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THEY PUT A 540 YOKE ON A 1000 RPM BUSHOG TO MAKE IT FIT A CERTAIN TRACTOR AND IF THIS IS THE CASE HOW WOULD THE BUSHOG RUN. THE REASON I'M ASKING IS WHEN I GO TO TURN, IT CHATTERS.THE PTO SHAFT ISN'T BENT AND THE UNIVERSAL JOINTS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE. ANY SUGGESTIONS? THANKS, JT

The outside yokes should line up and if the centerline of front yoke of the u joint is very close to the centerline of the drawpin, would have less tendancy to chatter.

If it chatters when you turn maybe the shafts are to long.

Had this trouble on a new bush hog last year. Convinced the dealer to install a constant velocity joint no more problem. This is a spendy item to buy. Spent the summer making big turns or shutting the pto off.

what you got is a screw up, if it was used for road work, good chance the damn thing is probably been abused to the max. I know from experience that the mentality of road-way cutters is very low. Good luck, hope all works out well.

I would guess it is right, if wrong you would be doubling it's speed & it would chatter 2-3 times as much....

Do you have the shafts slipped together right? If one is off 90 degrees that can make them chatter something aweful.

If it is a 1000 RPM mower hooked to a 540 shaft on the tractor he wouldn't be speeding it up because it would only be turning 540 rpm instead of 1000. A guy came and irrigated our tob. one year when our pump was down, he had a 540 pump with a 1000 splined shaft on it so he could hook to the shaft on his TW-35 ford. He had to run the tractor at darn near an idel to keep from spinning the pump to fast. That thing blew more black smoke than a superstock puller. He ended up burning up the irrg. pump

I could be wrong on this but check to make sure the PTO yokes on the shafts are all lined up with each other if they are not stright will cause a chatter when turning. good luck Willy
