I have a NH Hayliner Super 68 twine tie baler with a 2 cyl Wis engine. I have had it for about 10 years i rebuilt the engine & knotters when i got it & have replaced various other parts over the years. I put up about 2000 bales a year on our hobby farm it almost NEVER misses a tie. I keep the knotters clean & lubed & clean the chaf out of the engine shrouds regularly. One problem I have never been able to solve is " ratty looking bales " I have sharpened the knife & shimmed it as close to shear plate as possible, replaced wooden plunger slides & adjusted plunger but the chamber is very worn so the plunger has to be alittle loose or else the knife somtimes hits the shear plate. My question is can I get a plunger from a later model baler with roller bearings & use it ? If so which one? Also has anyone tried a product called bale skis to line bale chamber

The wood slides work better. Is your shear plate edge square and sharp? Bale skis has a web site. I sent for flyer but have not seen anything yet. Also- on my standard 68 I found the hay dogs HAVE to have good springs. Their about the only cheap thing on the baler. I also found if I make a good heavy windrow I get sqaurer bales.

Hay balin Bob; We have run a pile of bales through the super 68 and it has never made a truly square bale, at least when compared to the bricks some new balers put out. Have a close look at the springs on the hay dogs just behind the knotters. don't forget they are on the bottom of the chamber as well. Look to see if your chamber has the hay wedges . I think we run 3 on each side.I have seen the chamber liners in different publications but I can't offer any advice on them. We have had the chaff catch fire once or twice on us so be sure to keep the cooling fins cleaned out. We mostly use the 68 behind the team, works great unless your baleing beside the road in which case so many people stop to look and talk it slows down production. Got about 16" of snow today, sure makes haying season look a long way off. Roy
