Thanks for your input on my earlier post. Could my tractor (52 HP pto, 4100 pounds)
handle the NH 276 w. thrower?
This baler is less money, but a bigger unit than either the 273 or 310.
Minimum power values on current models are:
35 HP for NH 565 (like the 273 or 310??)
62 HP for NH 570 (grand-son of NH 276??) Yes, 62 HP!

I used a NH 275 with a Ford 4000 for a long time. About 5000 bales a year. Worked fine. The tractor dyno'd at 45 HP.

Frank, your tractor will do just find. The reason for the power requirements on the 570 is because of the hydraulic driven thrower. That thrower takes some horsepower to turn it. Also, todays tractors are lighter than they used to be so they have to be careful recommending a 35 to 50 horse tractor in case someone puts a compact tractor in front of one with 18 to 20 ft rack wagon behind on a hillside. That combination would push the tractor all the way to the bottom. By the way, the 276 was a very good baler. They were made between 1972-1976. Steve

We have a 310 and in big windrows it will pull it in fast enough to pull down a 90 hp tractor but that's usually windrows as high as the top of the pickup at 3 mph. You should be fine unless you try baling up a big hill with a full load of hay.

I have not had any real life experience with a 276, but we have had our SM-TA on the neighbors 311. The M-TA puts out around 55hp(give or take a few) and had no problem with it in light and medium windrows. It would handle heavy windrows but you would have to slow down, which isn't a biggie.

I don't think you would have any trouble with the tractor, baler, and wagon on the flat. I would think it might get alittle pushy on the hills though.

I would give a look at a 268, 269, or 273. They are light and are a good machine. We have a 269 and love it!!!
