I have a Farmall 460 and am attempting to put a New Idea loader on. I have the loader hooked up to a PTO pump, but can't get it to move. It is plumbed: Tank, filter, "tank" side of pump, "pump" side of PTO pump, inlet of loader valve, system (allready plumbed),back to tank. I have dual action cylinders, oil in the tank, all fittings are tight, oil gets to the valve (don't know if it is dual action valve, detent, or whatever). I had it hooked up to the tractor direct, but i had to use 2 hands to operat (1 to hald the tractor valve down, one to operate the loader valve). What can I do to get this thing to work. Pump worked on last tractor, loader worked before. HELP

When you say "Tank, filter, "tank" side of pump, "pump" side of PTO pump, inlet of loader valve, system (allready plumbed),back to tank. " I begin to wonder. In cold weather with fluid stiff it is hard to pull fluid through the filter with suction. Most of the units I have seen have only a screen on the suction side and the filter on the presure or return side.
One of the hyd. experts can correct me if I am mistaken.

Did you engage the PTO?
If so is the fluid circulating? You should be able to look in the tank and see some motion in the fluid. If no fluid movement try removing the hose from the inlet of the valve and make sure it is not cavitating (air in the pump) by running some fluid into a clean container. (so you can reuse it) Hook it back to the valve and try again.

Pto is enaged. I get "spitting" at the inlet when I crack the line. No movement in the tank. Think it is full if air? Thanks

Sounds like air is either getting in or needs to be purged. By the way you should have a stainer in the tank for the inlet to the pump and move the filter to the return line.

i think u need to remove the filter from the suction side and up it in the return side and see if that helps . is the filter able to handle the full flow of the pump?

I tried a better hose set up than what I had on the preesure side of the pump and it helped. I get a lot of "spitting" from the line when it is removed from the inlet of the valve. I'll try moving the filter and see what happens. At least the thing does move now. Thanks for the help so far! Bad thing is - I have to leave for a few days and can't play with it till Thursday or Friday.
