Out here in Oregon we use them as clod busters. To breake up the soil into finer particles. Also to till up small weeds. JDHUMP

Allis-Chalmers used to sell something that they called a 'mulch-treader.' Looked like two rotary hoes on steroids hooked together like an offset disk. Idea was to mash down stubble into the soil in the fall to help control erosion, as well as to accelerate breakdown of residue. Probably intended for use in conjunction with A-C No-Til planters.
