the original owners sons are still running a repair operation in mass. call them at 978-928-4258. I also have a problem with my wain roy maybe you father has run it to. it is the following. when i go along on level ground i can go at a good clip and shift and continue to go without any black smoke or a reduction in loss of power. however when i try to go up a hill at any speed i get a tremendous amount of black smoke with a loss of power and i cannot make it up a hill and the backhoe stalls out. any suggestions.

Paul, Wain-Roy is still in business making hoe
attachments and buckets. They are located in
either Fitchburg or Hubbardston, MA. I don't
have the phone number anymore but should be easy
to get from Ma Bell. Maybe someone at the factory
can give you the info you need.

Wain-Roy was bought by woods equipment. I called them but they said they don't have any of the old records.

It's been a while since I heard much about the
Wain-Roy stuff so the Woods buyout makes sense.
I have 2 Wain-Roy Rustler backhoe/loaders. Both
from the mid-60s with Ford 172 engines and a 4
speed Funk Rev-o-matic drive. My backhoe model
is F1441 which is the 14' hoe. Do you have just
the hoe or the complete machine? I'll check in
the morning as to the model number of the whole
unit as it's been a while and I've forgotten just
what they went by. I have a owner's manual and
maybe a shop one too so I might be able to help
with some pics or details.

Paul, I can't help BUT, I have a Wain-Roy Back hoe attachment, just the hoe part, not the tractor.
I am planing to attach it to one of my tractors,on a four point setup like ford backhoes.
I did a web serch awhile ago and they are still in business, tho'I think they only make a buckett quick attachment Is yours a crawler or a wheeled tractor? I have never seen one. Later Geo.

Mine is on a 1962 Ford 4000. It has special mounts that mount on the tractor. Don't know if they were custom built or not. The hoe has four attachment points on it. The base of the hoe sits on the lower two mount points then two arms close over the top two, and are held in place with two clamps to squeeze them down. Mine is in a bunch of pieces so I really need help figuring out how it all goes together. Thanks for the reply! Paul

Paul, I don't have pictures/paperwork Mine is not that complicated two lift cyl's to lift the boom, one to lift the dipper and one to curl the buckett, one each for the stablizer pads two to swing the boom. pretty straight foreward maybe I can talk you through it. I have never had it on a tractor,I bought it a few years ago, and I just haven't had time to mount it. it sounds like your mounting is "ford" I have seen/used a "ford" 4500 Ind. T.L.B. keep in touch,Geo
