Anyone use one of those Befco sickle mowers they claim mows at vertical or near vertical angles.? Wonder if they would trim shrubbery.

Spent some time on a experiment station where they did peach orchard research. They took an old pitmanless mower unit mounted it vertically with the drive at the top and powered it with a hydraulic motor. This unit was used for pruning the peach trees. Using the hydraulic drive allowed the bar to be far enough away from the tractor for the brush to clear. Some mowers can be setup in a wider configuration to allow mowing with the wheels set for cultivation. If you are deadset on doing it with your haymower you could set the mower wide and the tractor narrow for a little relief.

Never used a Befco, but my MF Dyna-Balance 31 will run in the upright and locked position and I have used it to trim back overhanging multiflora roses. Didn't work all that well, as the tractor isn't far enough away from the branches to keep the durned stuff from scratching me all to pieces.

Tim, Tim, Tim, that is one of those jobs you make the hired man do, sorta like cleaning out the bull's pen or reflooring the brooder house in January. I thought all you old farmers knew stuff like that. <:o)

I guess I'm not that old yet. Wish I could afford a hired man!
