I have a Woods rd8400 mower This is a rear discharge pto driven mower. I have this hooked up to a Farmall 230. This mower deck is two years old, although it sat on the dealers lot for a year. My problem is it worked fine up to last week. I had not used it in about 2 months. Now it seems to really turn hard, like the tractor can barely keep up and some times it can't.The tractor seems just fine otherwise. I looked under the deck and it was clean; no ropes, vines, grass etc. I can easily turn the blades (in turning one they all turn) but I can't turn the pto for nothing. Is this right? Or should I be able to? All I cut with this is lawn. I grease it once a month - every 10-12 hours of use, and check the oil level in the gear box.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
Nick

I'd be checking if your PTO on the tractor doesn't have a problem?? Does it get hot and bind up?? Maybe there's a defective berring in the mower gear box?? or blades?? Most likely there something wound up in the mower drive line some place?? Robert

Both my finish mower and Hog allow easy turning of the PTO shaft by hand....something must be bound up. Did you check for grass build up or haybaail twines on the shaft?

Good Luck
Steve
