I live in South Carolina and I plan to plant some Indian Corn, Decorative Gourds and small pumpkins for a fall market. I also plan to plant some acerage of different varities of hardshell gourds.I also am looking at planting an acre of cantaloupes. I was also thinking about an acre of fall pumpkins but the people around here say they are tough and expensive to grow down south. I am looking for some type of planter that has the plates and etc. to plant the above. I was planning on using a toolbar with planters and cultivators. Do you have any suggestions on a planter. I perfer used to keep the cost down. What all do you grow and what acreage do you grow ?

Thanks
Dickie

Hey Dickie; I know a big farm owner here on Johns' Island (near Charleston) who specializes in hayrides and "haunted cornfield" tours around Halloween every year. They sell a lot of pumpkins, but ship 'em all in from up north! Can't grow good ones in bulk in time for the season, so they just lay 'em out in their fields! Lotsa luck!

If you can find a set of Cole or Covington at a estate or tractor auction you're in bizness.

You can readily get the different seed plates for both.

One other cheap way to get planted what you want is maybe to find and old seed drill. I bought a 1940's model seed drill that will plant everything you listed and it only set me back $100.
