Snowblower too small?

I have an opportunity to buy a used snowblower (yes I know - SNOW??) at a really good price! ... the problem is that it is 6ft wide and made for a 40-45hp tractor. It seems sturdy enough to take a bigger tractor - what I need probably is a 6.5 or 7ft wide rig as it would be running behind a IH624 - 60hp diesel. Given that the tractor would be about 6 inches wider than the blower, will that affect performance? I have always been a "bucket" man in the winter but there are times where a blower would help?

Just thought I'd tell you lads that I picked it up on the weekend for $300Cdn (or roughly $200 in real money!) ... older fella wanted to clean up his barnyard (hadn't used it in 3 years so she was a bit rusty to say the least)... coated her in WD40 and greased her up (bearings and u-joints) and she purrs like a kitten! GIVE ME SNOW!

I know this is probably a stupid question but could you offset it so that one side will clear the tractor tracks and use that as the primary clearing side? That is a common answer to the rototiller problem of not being big enough to clear the tracks

Go easy on it, don't force the issue, and be sure to use the proper shear pins! You've got to be careful with your extra power

I ran into a similar situation a few years ago. I added 10" angled extensions to each side of the blower using 3/16" steel. Works great here in South Dakota.

The blower will move the snow if you can live with the limitations.
Since the blower is narrower than the rear wheels the wheels will break down and pack snow into hard ridges that are difficult to remove in future passes.
Since the blower is narrower than the track of the tractore it will leave hard banks that the front wheels of the tractor may not be able to break into if you try turning with out making second pass just to get wide enough to steer.
If you are planning to plow fresh snow into narrow ridge with a blade and then use the blower to get rid of it then the narrow blower will do a good job.
Have a good snow season.

Thanks RWK ... I will be leaving the bucket on the front (hydraulic with down presure) to pick up the "tailings" so to speak.

I use a 7' behind an 8' tractor. As RWK says, it works good enough.
