I am trying to replace a worn u-joint on a pto shaft, however, I have been able to only get one cup out so far. The thing has been used recently, but cannot get the other 3 cups to budge. Any suggestions on removing a very very stubborn u-joint? I have not put heat on it.

Thanks in advance.

I had trouble getting a U joint off of a shaft a while back, could only get cups to move so far. Then realized there was a c clip on the inside of the cup. Took that off and no problem. Have used a large vice to put them together and sometimes to take them apart. As other post said a hydraulic press is great. If you are replacing the cross you don't ahve to worry about taking it out gently, you can even cut it then knock out the cups. Just got to be more gentle putting it back together and be sure no needle bearings fall out when you press in the cups.

Some gentle heating of the yokes around the cups should help a lot. When she's warm, spray some PB Blaster in there and let it get drawn in.

What are you using to move the cups ? Hammer and drift ? C - Clamp ?

A hydraulic shop press can be pretty useful here.
