I have two single bottom Syracuse walk behind plows. They both have "No.20 1878" cast into the frog. The one which I think is newer, was my Great-Grandfather's and has a small John Deere symbol (JD) cast on the frog and "Syracuse Chilled Plow Co." The other, which I bought at an auction does not have the JD and the lettering is a different style, but everything else is the same. Does anyone know anything about these plows or where I could find out about them? When did John Deere aquire Syracuse? Thanks

George, What you have is a number 51 plow made by John Deere from 1934 through 1948. It was supposed to be pulled with any small tractor, they just wanted to sell plows, but often a B or an H was the John Deere that got the job. Your Allis B is also allowed, have fun. Bob

Bob, Thanks for the response, I think the "B" J.D. would not have any trouble pulling it, but it would require lighter solis for the little "H".
Now that I know it is as old as that, I should take better care of it! thanks for the information
George
