Howdy to All! I am about to complete a 8540 CIH {Hesston} inline baler overhaul that I bought late summer and would like to test fly it on some Corn Stalks yet this Fall {IF it ever drys out!!}. My plan is to take the 1209 MOCO and windrow the Stalks and Bale. Will this be a good test for the Baler, Thrower, and MOCO? Are there any Flaws in my plan? What changes will I need to make in the equipment to do this? TIA Dave

I always use my bushhog to mow . It has a removable side so it throws the stalks out and dont chop them up , works real good . I would`nt use the mo,con

I wouldn't use the Moco, I would buy or borrow a stalk choper, chop the stalks, rake them and bale. I did this every year with a super 77 NH sqaure baler. If your stalks are alittle damp, just rolling them twice really dries them out. I don't know if your thrower will work with the stalks, It may tear the bales. The stalks work great to bed animals!

Oh, by the way, make sure the knives on the plunger and bale chamber are tight- I had one work lose last week because of someone recycling old lock washers- If they work lose the plunger hits 'em and thats the end of them(Had two of em' break in the same feed baling fodder!)

I would not want to abuse my moco in this way. Those old stalks are really tough on a sickle, and wear on the rolls...

Around here thousands of acres of stalks are baled, but it is shredded with a flail chopper (corn stalk chopper) and sideraked. Most is round baled, but I think the Hesston should do just fine.

I did this once with a M-C rotory sythe and a JD 14T baler. It worked good except for a few stones. We beded free stalls with it the cow loved it. The hard part is hitting dry weather to bale it.
