Does anyone know if the NH718 can use a snapper head for ground ear corn. i don't think so. I think the 770 was the 1st model in that era that takes the snapper head. i would look it up in the manual but its up at my father's 300 miles away. Thanks in advance.

The head of a 770 will fit a 718, we took the head off of our super 717,(I think its the same as a 718, just older) and put it on our 770 this fall to try and get the corn to feed in for silage.

I don't know if it will blow the corn, our 717 didn't blow haylage very well, that is why we bought the 770 this spring. I paid $400 for it with a corn and hay head, the head comes out of gear due to the 770 corn head plugging. There was a 718 with a corn head besides it that went for $800, both came from the same owner.

Wheels,

Believe it or not bu we never used the 718 to chop corn..only haylage. My father likes his old jd 34. great corn chopper but we could never get it to blow haylage out the pipe. Many a JD dealer said that your were lucky if you got a few bushels out.

I bet it's nice not having to change heads.
Thanks for your time

Maybe that's why the 718 went for more, What kind of corn head do you use for silage, the corn won't feed into the chopper like it should, we put the 717 head on and it worked fine until part of the sickle drive broke and parts had to be ordered so we switched back and had fun. Wheels

The manual to our 718 doesn't say anything about a snapper head, I don't know if the newer model heads will interchange or not.

i'm pretty sure, its the same one that fits the 770. check with a NH dealer, i think there's a lot of them around the northeast cause small dairy farms are going out and many used them for HMC.

snapper heads for pull choppers are indeed becoming plentiful in the northeast. Stitzel's in Hamburg, PA may have what you want, but a lot of his stuff is worn out junk and anything that's good is priced like gold.
