Was the McCormick-Deering grain binder a left hand or a right hand cut?

We have an old McCormick-Deering rice binder and it has a left hand cut. My great-grandfather bought it new.

Well I don't know if I'm really an old timer yet but we cut oats with a binder for years when I was a kid cause my dad believed that the best way to get good straw for dairy cattle bedding was to thrash. ( a combine leaves all the chafe in the field)
We had two Massey-Harris ground drive and a JD power binder we pulled with a Massey-Harris 102SR. and a McCormick W4.
Both makes where left hand cut, 7ft and 8ft I think. Yeah I was the kid that got to throw the shieves out to the fence on the first round and then I would throw five rows into one so the men could stook them without walking so far. My dad thought a shieve carrier was to much trouble and slowed down the cutting. As I got older I got to ride the binder and run the reels.
I just turned 51, so maybe I am an old guy but growing up on the farm was a lot of work and a lot of fun!!!

IaGuy: The others are correct about left hand. I just wanted to add I can still see myself watching that left rear tractor wheel skim by the standing oats that was about to be cut. I took pride in keeping the corners quite square. Only 50+ years ago. Funny I can't remember where I put my car keys an hour ago.. R.

I don't know about Deering but McCormick made some right hand cut binders before they merged to form IH.

Ya betcha. We opened the field by cutting around the field clockwise, then the walk behind kid (me) picked the bundles out of the standing oats and threw them up against the fence so we could get clearance to start cutting counterclockwise. Ah, I can almost smell the oats.
