I own an original JD model no.57 plow. It is a three furrow 10 inch bottoms, trail plow on rubber tires and spoked wheels. It has original paint and decals, the JD logal is pre 1950 and identified as "No. 57". I have acquired a parts catolog from JD and it indicates that the model 57 was built between 1948 and 1956. However the catolog refers to a model 57, a 57G, a 57H and a 57GH does anyone know the differences and how to identify between the models??? Thanks.

Bill, Glad to hear you have a good #57 plow, I've never seen one but I can tell you the #57 is a clutch lift with levers for depth and leveling, the 57G is the same except screw cranks instead of levers, the 57H is hydraulic lift and depth control with a lever for leveling and the 57GH is hydraulic lift/depth control with a screw crank for leveling. It is sometimes a chore to figure this out but now that you know, I'll bet the parts catalog will show the variations, Bob

Bob, you are absolutely right! I had kinda figured the G and the H part but couldn't place the GH??
designation. With your explanation and looking at the parts catalog it all makes sense. I bought the plow from the original owner about five years ago but hadn't done anything with it. He told me it was a clutch lift when he bought it new and had it changed to hydraulic in 1953 when he bought a new JD50. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
PS: I came across a real nice model 55 last week and had to buy it!
Thanks, Bill

The H usually means hydraulic lift. Most parts books have pitures in the front showing model diffrences.
