Has anyone heard of a Model "E" grain drill made by John Deere? I have purchased one but the local John Deere dealer doesnt list an "E". They do however list an "F" which favors mine in everyway. I'd say that my drill was made in the late 50's or early 60's. It is raised and lowered by hydraulic cylinder from the tractor. Also, does the size of the wheel make a difference in the seed output, since this is a ground driven drill? It has 20" tires on it, but the Model "F" parts book has 15" listed. Someone help please.

The only models I can find in my books are the EE and EN both with 6" or 7" spacing. What spacing is your drill? The B replaced both of these drills in the 50s. The F had a wooden box and was replaced with the FF with a steel box, so I doubt your drill is an F. Sorry I couldn't help you on the size of the wheels.

It has double disk openers at 7" spacings with chain coverers. The drill in the book at the local JD store that matched mine was the "FB". Mine has galvanized boxes and is about 14' wide.

I am looking to purchase a grain drill. The one I am looking at is @14' wide, I think the gentleman refered to it as a 8 1/2/ 14 ??? Galvanized lids, but only single discs, with drag chains as you describe on yours. JD 40, I think he called it.

Can you tell me what the above drill is worth, and are parts still available?

It must be an FB then. Does the drill clearly say E on it. Maybe you can start matching part for part on your drill and a parts book of a FB drill.
