:I use a JD 350 3pt. and it works great on my LEVEL hay ground. If I do some 'hills and valley ' type fields, I have to follow the ground contour with my hydraulics to change position of the rake in realtionship to changing ground heights. I also use it on my JD60. I paid $350 for it some 10 years ago. Rake teeth is about the only repairs, so far.

I have a John Deere 3-point pto rake and it works great. They use basically the same parts for the main rake part as the ground driven 640 and 660 rakes.Parts are very easy to get.And they are usually cheaper to buy than the ground driven rakes. The JD has an optional intregal tounge that hooks up to the rakes 3-point mounts(or you make it very easily) and it hooks to the drawbar of the tractor and it pulls like a drag rake and follows the ground much better if the land is not level. And you don't need hydraulics that way.The 3-point models work great in very heavy hay such as hay grazer that has gotten wet in the windrow and needs to be turned to dry it out.Works a lot better with live pto or independent pto, though. The little air filled rubber tires are kinda pain in the butt sometimes.I replaced mine with solid rubber brush hog tires and fitted sealed bearings in place of the plain bushings in them.Works great.

I use a PTO driven rake and have great success with it. I don't know how big an operation you are talking about, but Furgeson made a good little unit. I use a 7ft mower/conditioner and it rolls a beautiful windrow even when the grass is thick. Parts are still available, you can easily rake around a corner(try that with a wheel rake), and inexspensive compared to the ground drive bar rakes. Around Southern Indiana a nice one will run $300-$450. I bought my fixer-upper for $125. At that price, I can have one for everyday of the week for the price of one used dolly wheel ground drive. Hope this helps, Dennis H.

If you have live hydraulics you can find one to run off that or spend less and go with the ground driven, dont waste money on a pto one

The only Pto rakes I have seen were Allis Chalmers. And they were Pure Junk The only good machine the company made was Gleaner combines. and they were another companys patent.
