I bought a New Holland hay crusher model# 404. I cut my second cutting alfalfa with a sickel bar mower. I went to use the crusher and it didnt seem to pick up the hay very well. Some of the hay went through the machine, maybe 50%. How can you adjust the machine to do a better job of picking up most of the hay? Should the rubber roller be almost on the ground? The roller is in good shape, and the crusher seemed to run well. I think ill need to know how to adjust it better. Any suggestions? THANKS!!!!

Yes, that roll has to be close to the groung, also go the same way as you mowed, if your mower would have the hay conditioner hitch that would be ideal, these directions are for all makes, don't know if the ford was any good, have used Yetter, McCormick, A.C. & J.D., J.D.No.1 done the best job, Went bad Bought the A.C. was necent but did not do as good as the old Deere, Bought a J.D.no.22 did not like it, went back to the old A.C.,Afthe that bought a Case(made by Heston) haybine, worked good, quit making hay 20 year ago.
